Zanja Fría

3/5

Location: Arecibo

Getting there: From San Juan, drive 1 hour west to the municipality of Arecibo. The pin will take you to a manned gate, I am not sure why it is there or what they are guarding. Park outside of it, here. Walk down the road until you see the sign for the trailhead on your left. The trail is flat and takes about 10 minutes or less each way.

General Info: This spring is relatively large with enough room for a few groups to share the spot. There is a large pipe underwater that you can swim through if you feel so inclined. The spring continues in the form of a narrow river until it reaches a lagoon. I wanted to follow the river a ways, but chickened out due to spotting a caiman in the last spring in Vega Baja.

Heads up: A guy brought a speaker so big he had to roll it in on wheels. Don’t be that guy.

  • A rather large spring.
  • The walk is longer than some may like, but not difficult.
