Tocones Beach

Tocones Beach, Vega Alta
3.5/5

Location: Vega Alta

Getting there: From San Juan, drive 35 minutes west to Vega Alta. You’ll drive through a neighborhood and park here. You’ll walk through a small forested path between houses. If there has been rain, you may have to hop over some stagnant water.

Things to do: Relax in the shallows – There are rocks and some small shore break waves, but it is still possible to chill in the water. Snorkeling – There are some somewhat healthy patches of reef scattered throughout this bay that are definitely worth checking out, unless the surf is very rough. Surf – Further out, near the mouth of the bay there are surfable waves.

Heads up: I have heard that car break ins have occurred here.

  • Surfing in the winter, snorkeling in the summer.
  • Often uncrowded.
  • Limited shade.
  • Claims of car break ins in this spot.
