Tamarindo Grande Beach

3/5

Location: Culebra Island

Getting there: Take the ferry from Ceiba to Culebra Island. When you arrive on Culebra, take a taxi to Flamenco Beach. There will be many vans at the ferry terminal all headed there with a fixed price of $5.00 each way. You’ll be dropped off at an entrance point which is private property and you’ll need to pay $2.00 to get in. From there you can walk 20 minutes down a dirt road in the parking lot to the beach. If you rent a vehicle, you can also park here and walk the rest of the way.

Things to do: Snorkel – the main thing to do at this beach is to snorkel. There is excellent snorkeling at this beach, better even than Flamenco Beach. Unlike Carlos Rosario Beach which is right next door, the snorkeling here is incredibly shallow, making it well suited for beginners. This beach is also more protected from harsh surf conditions, making it a good alternative to Carlos Rosario when there are waves there.

Heads up: There will often be boats moored near the shore. Be careful of the current while snorkeling, it will push you towards the coral.

  • Likely to be uncrowded, but unlikely to be empty.
  • Great snorkeling.
  • The walk to get there is rather long and hot.
