Siete Chorros

2.5/5

Location: San Lorenzo

Getting there: From San Juan, drive 1 hour south to the country town of San Lorenzo. There is a large parking lot you can use for $5.00, or park somewhere else for free. You’ll see a large sign that says “Río Siete Chorros”,  walk to the restaurant near this sign, this is the entrance to the waterfall. You’ll walk past another house selling popsicles (we got one and it wasn’t very good), and you’ll end up right next to the waterfall.

Things to do: Take it in – There is a lot of shade over a rocky area, so you may want to bring a chair to set up and hang out. It’s called siete chorros because there are apparently seven different waterfalls if you come when there is enough water. They are pretty small waterfalls but it’s true enough. Get in the water – You can enter the water in a narrow channel near the waterfall and walk in knee-deep water  most of the way until it gets deep enough that you can swim around in a small area towards the back. All the water crashing around you is loud and the water is refreshing. Just remembering swimming there pushes the reset button in my mind.

Heads up: If you spend $15.00 on food at the restaurant who owns the parking lot and access point to Siete Chorros, you get free parking. There was some gross-looking foam in a corner so I didn’t dunk my head in the water.

  • The pool at the base of the falls is deep enough to swim in.
  • Usually uncrowded.
  • Easily accessible.
  • $5.00 parking.
