salto Collazo

3/5

Location: San Sebastián

Getting there: From San Juan, drive 1 hour 30 minutes to the western interior of the island in San Sebastián.The waterfall is right off the side of the road. A bridge you drive over crosses the stream from the waterfall. Just after the bridge falls another, bigger waterfall. Accessing the pool beneath it is very difficult. To get to Salto Collazo, park on the side of the road after the bridge. On the one side of the bridge looking at the water fall is a trail to get to the falls.

Things to do: Take it in – This is a super strange and unique waterfall. The water comes from a nearby natural spring. The mineral water that cascades over the falls leaves a calcium buildup that has accumulated over years. Get in the water – You can get into the shallow pool at the base of the waterfall. The water is extremely cold and small fish will nibble at your dead skin. Drink from a coconut – Right next to the trail is a nice coconut vendor. After your’e done drinking the water from the coconut, she will split it open for you so you can eat any flesh that’s inside.

Heads up: The parking spots are right next to the highway where big trucks pass by often.
