Porta Coeli Convent

2.5/5

Location: San Germán

Getting there: Drive 2 hours 15 minutes south west to the small colonial town of San Germán. the convent and chapel are right next to the main plaza. There is very little parking around the plaza, so you’ll likely need to drive around the side roads to find a place to park. Walking between the colonial era structures is fun.

General Info: This is a spot most visitors likely do not reach. If you are on the west side, I think this small town is worth a visit for it’s charming plaza that is surrounded by Spanish colonial buildings and a convent/church turned museum. When I was there, people were working in an art studio nearby, and the sound of a skilled pianist practicing could be heard in the plaza. I followed the sound to an old government building where I looked through some free books while I listened to her play.

Heads up: If you want to enter the museum, make sure to check their hours online (link above) because they are very strange. When I went, the museum was unfortunately closed, but it was still nice to walk around the historic structure.
