Navio Beach

Navio Beach, Vieques
4.5/5

Location: Vieques Island

Getting there: Take the ferry from Ceiba to Vieques Island. When you arrive on Vieques, you’ll need to rent a UTV or golf cart for $60.00 – $160.00 and drive around 25 minutes to get there. Getting there isn’t easy, a vehicle with some clearance is required as the unpaved road that leads to the beach is pretty rough. We drove there in a UTV without any problem. Enter through the paid entrance to Sun Bay Beach ($4.00), and drive down the dirt road that runs along the mile-long beach until the road curves left into the forest. Then follow the road right to Media Luna Beach and continue on until you reach the Navio Beach parking area – there are two different parking spots.

Things to do: Walk the beach – You’ll have a view of another white sand beach across the channel that leads to Mosquito Bay. There are more shells on one side of the beach (right side pictured above). There is a very small cave on one side of the beach. Relax in the shallows – the water was calm and clear when I went. Body surf – Apparently there are often waves here to body surf or even boogie board.

Heads up: When I went to this beach it was a calm, perfect paradise. I have heard that that is not usually the case. Apparently this beach gets sizable waves year-round and is good for body surfing or boogie boarding. It may be the case that it’s very rare to find the beach like I found it in late January 2024. Also, look out for thorns in the sand near the tree line. When it rains a lot, the uneven dirt road may have extremely deep puddles that are not passable except by high-clearance vehicles.
