Museum of the Americas

2.5/5

Location: San Juan

Getting there: This museum is located close to El Morro. Park here in Old San Juan. When you leave the parking structure, walk to the road and then down it towards El Morro. You’ll walk along the building and cross through a plaza that faces El Morro. The building is the one pictured above to the left. The museum is on the second floor.

General Info: You’ll pay at a small outdoor ticket stand and they’ll suggest which rooms to visit in which order. This must be the most frequently visited museum in Puerto Rico, due to its proximity to El Morro. I don’t think it’s the best museum on the island, but it’s not bad. A large part of it is dedicated to the island’s history. The other is a rotating art installation.

Heads up: When I went last, it was full of minimalist-style, anti-U.S., propaganda posters. They looked AI generated. The message was the focus, not the art. The art was simple and boring. If not for the rest of the museum it would have been a waste of money.

  • Close proximity to El Morro.
  • I’d say that this museum is just alright. Not a must-visit on your trip to Old San Juan.
