Media Luna Beach

Media Luna Beach
1.5/5

Location: Vieques Island

Getting there: Take the ferry from Ceiba to Vieques Island. When you arrive on Vieques, you’ll need to rent a UTV or golf cart for $60.00 – $160.00 and drive around 20 minutes to get there. Enter through the paid entrance to Sun Bay Beach ($4.00), and drive down the dirt road that runs along the mile-long beach until the road curves left into the forest. Then follow the road right at the fork to Media Luna Beach. The road to the left will take you to the bioluminescent bay.

Things to do: Relax in the shallows – the water is calm and incredibly shallow at this beach. It’s perfect for families and those less comfortable in deeper or rougher waters. Picnic – There are multiple pavilions where you can eat lunch. If those are taken, find shade under one of the abundant sea almond trees.

Heads up: Both times I have been to this beach I have found a lot of debris in the water. Because there are so many great beaches on Vieques, this beach will likely not be on most visitors’ lists.

For more information, see Vieques Itinerary and Keys & Islands.
