Guyanes Dry Forest

2/5

Location: Humacao

Getting there: Drive for approximately 45 minutes from San Juan to the east coast in Humacao. To get to the trails here you’ll need to enter the Palmas del Mar gated community, tell them you are going to the beach. Park here. There are many trails snaking through this forest and there may be other and better ways to enter but this is the one I know.

General Info: There are multiple hike you can do here. I enjoyed hiking to Punta Icacos (pictured) and swimming to the nearby Secret Beach. When the water is calm you can hang out at this rocky point. Navigating this area is easiest with sandals like Tevas. There is an observation tower and another beach you can access on these trails and maybe other places too.

Heads up: It is very hot and there is very little shade here. Bring a hat and water. You’ll want to have your phone handy to use Google Maps to get to whichever area you’re interested in visiting.

  • Multiple attractions to visit.
  • Hot with little shade.
  • The trails are not clearly marked.
  • I believe all of this land is privately owned by the Palmas del Mar housing complex.
