GuAyaney Spring

3/5

Location: Manatí

Getting there: From San Juan, drive 45 minutes west to the municipality of Manatí. The parking is a little tricky, there is a city ordinance making it illegal to park in all the closest spots. We parked on a side road a short walk from the trailhead. I believe there are a couple different spots to get on the trail, one is here. Finding the spring isn’t as easy as I had thought it would be. We passed and walked around 15 minutes too far. Take a left at the first fork and walk for about 15 minutes, it will be on your right. Look for a break in the trees next to the road, you’ll be able to look down on the spring from the road. There used to be a sign marking its location but had been removed when we went.

General Info: This spring is very small. There’s only room for one person in the deep area (pictured), maybe two if you stay very still. The rest of the spring is quite shallow and full of large rocks. It’s a very beautiful and tranquil place if you can get it to yourself like we did for about ten minutes before a tour group arrived.

Heads up: I’d suggest going on a weekday for a better chance of getting it to yourself for any amount of time.

  • The most natural – feeling spring as it is not developed in any way. The other two that are in the forest have signs of human construction next to them, one a large metal pipe in the water, the other a gross play structure.
  • Very shallow and small.
  • You can miss it while hiking.
