Gozalandia Waterfall

Gozalandia Waterfall
4/5

Location: San Sebastián

Getting there: From San Juan, drive 1 hour 30 minutes to the western interior of the island in San Sebastián. Getting to the waterfall is straightforward until you reach the parking lot. To get to the lot you have to go up an extremely steep but short section of road. I couldn’t make it up in my car with the road wet. We ended up parking at the bottom of the road and walked up it. It doesn’t add much of a walk and since we didn’t use the parking lot we got in for free. There’s a restaurant next to a pond with a sidewalk around it. Follow the sidewalk until you get to a fork, take a left and it will lead you to a staircase that will get you to the waterfall. If you go right, you’ll walk 10 minutes until you get to another similar waterfall/pool with a rope swing.

Things to do: Get in the water – You can jump in the water from the ledge that the water runs over as well as the spot where the girl is standing in the photo on the right. I enjoyed climbing up the waterfall a short way on the left and sitting on the rock as the water cascaded around me. I found that the water was surprisingly warm. Second waterfall – As I mentioned above you can get to a second waterfall where there is a rope swing.

Heads up: A car with four-wheel drive will be nice to have to get up the hill, particularly when it is raining. You can make it up in a smaller car, you’ll just need to floor it and get some speed. Be careful of slippery surfaces when walking around the water.
