Fuerte Caprón

2.5/5

Location: Guánica

Getting there: Drive for approximately 2 hours from San Juan to the southern coast in Guánica. Park off the side of the road, right next to the trailhead. Make sure to use the trail pin. If you use the pin of the tower itself, it will take you to a different trailhead on the other side of the forest. That trail is 3 miles each way. Driving down the 333 you’ll see a sign for Jaboncillo Beach on the right and then a sign shortly after for Fuerte Caprón on the left.

General Info: This is a moderate 0.9 mile out and back hike with a 304 ft elevation gain. The trail is mostly unshaded and will be extremely hot on most days. The trail is somewhat rocky, but is not overly difficult or steep. You can go inside the tower. Unfortunately, it is has been heavily graffitied on the inside.

Heads up: Bring water and wear a hat, it’s usually hot and sunny in the Guánica Dry Forest. Make sure you use the correct pin to get to the trail you want.
