Escambrón Beach

Escambrón Beach, San Juan
3.5/5

Location: San Juan

Getting there: Located on the eastern side of the Islet of San Juan, the western side being Old San Juan. To park as close as possible to the beach, park here. It’s paid parking that will cost you $5.00. You can park for free around Luis Muñoz Marin Park. I usually park around here or here

Things to do: Relax in the shallows – The water is usually very calm but can get crowded as the beach is pretty small. Snorkeling – There is a popular snorkeling spot here. Whether the water is clear or not depends on how much rain the area has received recently. Surf – This surf spot is called La Ocho. The paddle out is very long and a shoulder-burner but its the best surf spot in San Juan, as far as I am concerned. Walk around – There is a big recreation area here that is a popular place to walk around or even explore on electric rental scooters. You can see the two different beach areas and some Spanish building remains. Eat – Walk to the nearby El Hamburger for lunch for some excellent, cheap burgers from a beloved local establishment.

Heads up: This beach is small and can get crowded any day of the week. There is a very small free lot that surfers use near the entrance to the paid parking.
