Domes Beach

Domes Beach
3/5

Location: Rincón

Getting there: From San Juan, drive 2 hours west to the sleepy beach town of Rincón. You’ll pass the lighthouse on your left and continue to the end of the road. You can park there, or turn left down the somewhat steep and washed out road to park closer to the water.

Things to do: Surf – This is usually the only reason people go to Domes Beach. It is widely known as some of the best surfing in Puerto Rico and I strongly agree. Snorkel – If the waves are not big, it is possible to snorkel. Just make sure you aren’t blocking any surfers. Near the rocky point there is likely to be no surfers on a low-surf day. This is also the area where you are likely to find sea turtles.

Heads up: The first time I went to Domes there was 10 people max in the lineup. The next time I went there was way more than that. The next time there were so many people I decided to not even attempt it and instead drove to the nearby Maria Beach which was much less crowded.

  • Amazing surfing.
  • A good spot to see Sea Turtles.
  • Some natural shade.
  • Constant shore break waves make relaxing in the shallows difficult or impossible.
  • Can get very crowded (surfing).
