Charco Azul

2.5/5

Location: Patillas

Getting there: From San Juan, drive 1 hour 15 minutes south to Carite State Forest. The drive is beautiful and winding. There is a parking lot on the side of the road. Walk down a paved road into the forest to an abandoned bathroom facility and onto a partially paved trail. The trail is pretty washed out in some areas and takes about 10 – 15 minutes.

Things to do: Get in the water – The charco is quite large and shallow around much of the shore. Spend the day – This is a good place to set up your things, even with a big group, as their is a large grass area. There is a covered pavilion with some benches. There are also some BBQ pits but they are in pretty rough shape. If you are looking to throw a party in the forest with 20+ people, this is the perfect place for you. Specific, but true.

Heads up: This is far from the best charco and I tend not to stay here long, but it is a beautiful area.

  • A large pool to swim in.
  • Usually uncrowded.
  • The hike to reach the charco is very scenic and mellow.
  • Remote location.
