CAGUANA CEREMONIAL INDIGENOUS HERITAGE CENTER

2.5/5

Location: Utuado

Getting there: From San Juan, drive 1 hour 45 minutes to the center of the island, in Utuado. The site is not far from the town of Utuado. You’ll pull off the road into a parking lot where you’ll need to pay for entry.

General Info: I have heard that this site is most commonly visited by school children visiting on field trips to learn about the Taíno. There isn’t too much to see here, but if you are in the area, I think it’s worth a stop. You’ll walk down from the parking lot following a sidewalk through a nicely landscaped property. You’ll get to some buildings which house a very small, one room museum. You’ll need to pay a separate fee to enter the museum. It’s very small but I am guessing most people pay since they are already there. The main attraction does not cost extra. Walk between two buildings to a large grass lot to see the “bateys”. Large fields marked by stones, some of them marked with images.

Heads up: Including the museum, a visit here won’t take longer than an hour or so.

  • Easily accessible Taíno site.
  • Not a whole lot to see.
