San Cristóbal Canyon Lookout

San Cristóbal Canyon Lookout
3/5

Location: Barranquitas

Getting there: From San Juan, drive 1 hour 20 minutes southwest to the biggest canyon in all of the Caribbean. Start the approximately three-mile hike from this trailhead. Stay on the large main trail until it gets smaller and heads into the forest, the trail ends at a lookout point in front of the waterfall pictured above. There are many smaller trails forking off from the main trail along the way, I have no idea where most of these go.

Things to do: Hike – If you take this trail, there’s not much to do besides hike. You could wander down one of the many other trails in the reserve, but make sure you have service in case you get lost. Para La Naturaleza maintains the land and appears to be panting interesting trees all around.

Heads up: This trail can get muddy at times after rain, especially in the forested section.

  • A great moderate hike for those looking to stretch their legs. It’s 3 miles long but has only about 90 feet of elevation gain.
  • The view from the lookout point is worth seeing.
  • Can get muddy.
  • Most of the trail has no shade.
