Carlos Rosario Beach, Culebra
3.5/5

Location: Culebra

Getting there: Take the ferry from Ceiba to Culebra Island. When you arrive on Culebra, take a taxi to Flamenco Beach. There will be many vans at the ferry terminal all headed there with a fixed price of $5.00 each way. You’ll be dropped off at an entrance point which is private property and you’ll need to pay $2.00 to get in. From there, follow the Google Maps pin, or ask around to find the trailhead that leads to the neighboring beaches. The hike should take around 20 minutes each way.

What to look for: The snorkeling here is similar to that of the nearby Cayo Luis Peña. Here we have seen even cooler marine life. My wife saw a nurse shark laying on the sea floor, halfway hidden under coral, and an octopus blending in with the coral it was hiding on.

Heads up: The current here can be strong, so be aware. If it is unusually easy to swim out, test swimming back to shore to make sure it’s not more than you can handle.

  • Possibly the best snorkeling on Culebra island under the right conditions.
  • To get there, parking at the ferry terminal costs $15.00 a day, the ferry costs $4.00, and the entrance to the Flamenco Beach area costs $2.00 per person.
  • A 20 minute hike each way.
